Vasco Rato is Associate Professor at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, teaching sustainability at the Dpt. of Architecture and Urbanism and researching at ISTAR-Iscte on regenerative and performance-based low impact design using multi-criteria decision analysis. He is an Architect with a MSc. in Construction and a PhD in Civil Engineering, and has training in Business Sustainability Management (Univ. of Cambridge CISL-BSM Program), and in Circular Economy for a Sustainable Built Environment (TU Delft/edX). Global project leader of ‘QualEnv – Change the Climate’ (Erasmus+ CBHE GA2019-1968/001-001), and part of the ongoing projects ‘Smart-BEEjS Human-Centric Energy Districts: Smart Value Generation by Building Efficiency and Energy Justice for Sustainable Living’ (H2020-MCSA-ITN-2018 GA812730), and ‘University Community Engagement in Technologies for Sustainability: a Social Architecture’ (financed by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian). He was an invited expert member of the Executive Committee for the Portuguese regulation on Buildings Energy Efficiency Certification (2010-2012). As Director of Sustainability at Iscte (2017-2018), he led a team that implemented an ISO 14001-certified environmental management system.
